JOHN & LIESI DOSS UPDATE JULY '08

John & Liesi Doss Update - July 1, 2008
Blessed be the LORD…Who only does wondrous things! Ps 72:18
Thank you so much for your prayers & support. God truly works in response to our prayers!
We believe the Lord has answered our prayer for another young couple to work together with us in the church plant. We recently met with a couple who live about 15 minutes away from Eisenstadt. It seems the Lord has simultaneously been laying the same thing on our hearts. They’ve been praying for a long time that God would start something in Burgenland. They recently stopped doing the ministries they were a part of at their home church in Vienna in order to focus on ministering in Burgenland. Both of us want to help out with a youth group in Eisenstadt as well as start a young adult’s home group in the fall with another couple who leads the youth group. We’ll all be going to the 2nd ever youth retreat of this youth group in August. This will be a great way to get to know each other and the youth much better. We believe God is forming a team in Eisenstadt!
In other news, we finally got a car! We bought a used Toyota Corolla. It’s a big relief to finally have the car as we’ve been saving up for months. Thank you to those of you who prayed.
Our official moving day is July 30th. Between now and then there’s a lot of work to do. Please pray for strength and joy despite the inevitable disappointments to come.
Concerning work, thank you to those of you who prayed for wisdom. I’ve decided for several reasons to continue teaching English part-time at my institute in Vienna instead of trying to be completely self-employed in Eisenstadt. Please pray that my employer would be able to offer me work that’s close to Eisenstadt.
Please Pray!
We’re so blessed to see God answering our prayers in the way that He has over the past few months. Every time we see Him answer prayer, it gives us more boldness to ask Him for more. Please continue to pray along with us for the following:
• Our church-planting team to be identified (i.e. who’s in?)
• Our church-planting team to have one vision from God for Eisenstadt
• God to prepare those in Eisenstadt whom He has appointed us to minister to

June, 2008 Update
Answered Prayer!
I waited patiently for the LORD's help; then he listened to me and heard my cry. Psalms 40:1
Thank you, those of you who’ve been praying for us. The Lord is truly helping us!
The good news is: We found an apartment in Eisenstadt! The Lord gave us what we wanted and more.
We prayed that we could rent privately and not through a real estate agency (so expensive!). We also prayed for a bigger apartment yet one with approximately the same rent payment as ours. Yesterday, we found an apartment that is more than twice as big as our current apartment, yet only €70 ($100) more per month. Plus, it is through a private person and we can move in whenever we want. God is truly answering our prayers! We also find the timing to be perfect since we didn’t want to drive back & forth from Vienna to Eisenstadt looking for an apartment during the EM starting next week (European soccer championship hosted in Austria this year; Vienna’s population will double in June).
Another answer to prayer is my job. I had an interview at an adult education school in Eisenstadt and will have two classes offered in their program for the fall. This is good, yet it will be no more than 4 hours per week (my goal is 15). Please pray for wisdom for me as there are many options and issues to consider concerning where I should teach (e.g. Vienna or Eisenstadt) and who (e.g. adults or teens).
Please Pray!
I ask you especially to pray for a young couple like us who would commit to having a full- or part-time role (i.e. 20-40 hours per week) in the church plant. Several people showed interest in going out with us to plant a church, yet no one has committed to coming with us yet. We’re grateful for the family that lives there who will (and already have!) help & work together with us; yet we do earnestly see the need for at least one other couple who would be a part of our team.
Other prayer requests:
1. God to prepare the hearts of those in Eisenstadt whom He has planned for us to minister to.
2. Sensitivity toward God’s leading in order to be part of His plan & His work in Eisenstadt.
3. A car.

John & Liesi Doss Update
May 5, 2008
Big News!
This is not a normal update. This brief newsletter is only about one thing: our next step.
As of last week, we told our Landlord that we’re moving out of our apartment at the end of July. Why? We’re moving to the city of Eisenstadt to be part of a church-plant.
Liesi & I were praying about being part of a church-plant even while we were engaged. We had no idea where we should go, but we asked God for a few things:
1. Our vision is to plant a church where there are very little evangelical churches.
2. We don’t want to go anywhere alone; we want to start out with a team.
3. Liesi would like to continue working in Wiener Neustadt & not have to look for a new job.
We are amazed at how well Eisenstadt fits that description!
1. We know of one evangelical church in the whole district of Eisenstadt (appr. 40,000 people). As far as we know, there are no evangelical churches in the neighboring district of Mattersburg either (also 40,000 people). These regions don’t need 1 or 2 evangelical churches, but 20!
2. We’re grateful to have come into contact with a Missionary family living in Eisenstadt over the past year. They agree that there is a great need for a church in Eisenstadt & have asked us to come. Their Son & Daughter-in-law lead a youth group & have also expressed a desire for us to come alongside & help them. It seems that God is forming His team!
3. Eisenstadt is only 30 km (18 m) from Wiener Neustadt while Vienna is over 60 km away!
We see all of these things happening and conclude that God has answered our prayers & has shown us what our next step is. Now all that remains is the faith to take it.
Please Pray!
There’s a reason why there are hardly any evangelical churches in this area. Satan has destroyed the marriages/families of Missionaries who’ve tried to plant churches here before & we know that he’d love to destroy ours. Yet we believe in Jesus’ promise: “I will build my church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18).
Please pray with us that God would prepare people’s hearts to be receptive to His gospel. Pray as well for our team - those who have expressed interest in being part of this church plant; that God would unite us together & give us His vision for this region. Pray for endurance, for we know that this work will take years of hard work & dedication.
Finally, we ask you to pray for a few practical needs Liesi & I have:
1. An apartment in the city of Eisenstadt
2. A car (no more public transportation!)
3. A job: John would like to teach English part time in the city/region of Eisenstadt. This will not only be a means of income but also a way to meet people in the area.
We thank all of you who’ve been praying for us: we feel & see the fruit of your prayers!
